Gynaecology or gynecology (see spelling differences) is the medical practice dealing with the health of the female reproductive system. Almost all modern gynaecologists are also obstetricians (see obstetrics and gynaecology).
What Does a Gynecologist Do? Gynecologists give reproductive and sexual health services that include pelvic exams, Pap tests, cancer screenings, and testing and treatment for vaginal infections. They diagnose and treat reproductive system disorders such as endometriosis, infertility, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain.
Gynecologists specialize in women's sexual and reproductive health care. Physicians who specialize in men's sexual and reproductive health care — including the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the male sex and reproductive organs — are called urologists.
The doctor will ask questions about your previous medical history, your family history and past surgeries. He or she will ask you to remember when your first period was and tell them what it is like - whether your menstrual cycle is regular, how long it lasts, etc.
